In today’s market, selling your home happens a lot faster and, hopefully, for more money. The reason being is that we are experiencing a “sellers’ market.” This means that there are not a lot of homes for sale, which puts pressure on prices to go up and drives days on market down. We find that many of the questions we get are centred around what you need to do to prepare to get the best possible price. What is worth doing, and what is not?

People are time poor these days, so the idea of buying a home that needs a lot of work is not high on their buying agenda. The more you can do to make your home shine, the more buyer interest and, ultimately, money you will receive. Having a third party run a critical eye over your home is key. We all get used to living there, and some of us just don’t see what others do ! I have just sold my home, and I was guilty of this too. Luckily, I have some very forthright friends (who are also agents) who had no problem letting me know the maintenance jobs I could not ignore and the clutter I had to get rid of.
